TRAUMA INFORMED PROGRAMMES
At Parent Network Scotland, we aim not only to be a trauma-informed organisation, but in fact a trauma-responsive organisation who actively work towards supporting parents and practitioners' experiences in helping families thrive in the face of adversity. We also engage with practitioners to better support parents and children who may have experienced trauma. We do this in keeping with our Scottish Government's Roadmap for Creating Trauma-Informed and Responsive Change.
Trauma can be defined as "a deeply distressing or disturbing experience that can have lasting effects on an individual's mental, emotional, and physical well-being". When a family member experiences trauma, it can impact the entire family dynamic and relationships.
Through our courses we will discuss how trauma can manifest in different ways within families, such as increased conflict, communication breakdown, and changes in behaviour. It is important to understand the signs of trauma in order to provide appropriate support and resources for you and your family and also for for practitioners to support families going through difficult times. By gaining a deeper understanding of trauma and its impact on families, we can better equip ourselves to help those in need.
OVERVIEW OF SPACE PROGRAMME
Overview of the SPACE Programme for adult participants.
The Adult Programme uses a psycho educational model to educate and inform parents or carers on why children behave the way they do and how, as adults, we can support them using a trauma informed parenting approach. It is suitable for children and parents using universal care services and specialist services and its aim is to provide an intervention before significant difficulties arise or support parents/carers in acknowledging they may need further help.
The programme is suitable for individuals and couples and can be run in mixed or single gender groups
THE CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE PROGRAMME
The Children & Young People Programme supports the building of knowledge and learning throughout the programme to help children and young people gain a good understanding of the importance of emotional health, wellbeing in relation to themselves, others and their family.
Where possible the programmes run concurrently with the intention that parents and children learn together.
THE BENEFITS OF BOTH PROGRAMMES ARE
- To understand the link between emotions & behaviours
- To learn strategies to continue to develop individual and family resilience

TIME TO HEAL TRAINING PROGRAMME
A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove... but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.”
In this course, you will participate in the Time to Heal Training Programme, which is designed to help practitioners support parents and carers, through developing the skills and tools necessary to understand emotional wounds and promote mental well-being in families.
Throughout the sessions, you will learn information and practices to enhance your awareness of trauma, working with families, and building resilience. You will also explore the importance of healing from past traumas and building a strong foundation for emotional growth.
The Time to Heal Training Programme will cover topics such as identifying adverse childhood experiences, practicing compassion, and creating a support network for ongoing healing. This programme is designed to empower you to understand the emotions and behaviours in families, and work alongside them to help them move forward.
